The Islamic Welfare Society registered in Bhatkal has proudly completed 43 years of remarkable service. Reflecting on the impressive statistics over these years, one can truly say that Alhamdulillah (all praise be to Allah), the seed planted with sincere intentions has grown into a robust tree, benefiting thousands of individuals from Bhatkal and neighboring areas with its bountiful fruits. Today, the Society stands like a large, protective tree, providing economic support to the community.
In today's world, the Capitalistic Economy System is not only in decline but has reached unprecedented lows. There is a growing demand for the Islamic Economy System, and it is the responsibility of Muslims to liberate humanity from the grip of usurers.
The Islamic Welfare Society in Bhatkal represents a significant step towards establishing a just and fair Economic System based on Islamic principles. We ensure the safety of deposits from various organizations and mosques. To encourage saving habits, our pigmy collectors visit households daily, collecting approximately 1 to 1.25 lakhs rupees. People entrust their surplus income and savings to us with the hope of earning rewards in the hereafter, and this fund allows us to provide Interest Free Loans to those in need. The guidance from Jamat e Islami Hind continually uplifts our spirits.
Alhamdulillah, the Society, alongside all segments of the Muslim community, extends equal opportunities to our non-Muslim brethren to benefit from the Interest Free Loan Scheme, with around 15% of our borrowers coming from non-Muslim communities.
What began with minimal capital in 1982 has now grown into a venture with a turnover in crores, benefiting countless individuals through the Interest Free Loan Scheme.
The Society has also organized the distribution of Zakat funds, assisting around 550 families in Bhatkal. We create a list of deserving individuals from the area, providing them with monthly pensions of 500, 300, and 200 rupees, deposited in their accounts for easy withdrawals. Additionally, we supply around 30 families with monthly ration kits, funded by generous donors. Some individuals choose to deposit their Zakat with us, specifying beneficiaries, while others contribute to our Zakat Fund for distribution at our discretion. We also allocate funds for medical treatment, aiding 4-5 individuals monthly for healthcare needs, and provide emergency financial assistance for accidents, confirmed by reliable sources.
Another meaningful use of our Zakat Fund is the free distribution of essential items for students in local government primary schools, with approximately 700 deserving students benefiting from this initiative annually. The Society's discreet distribution of Zakat has garnered appreciation, notably from the internationally acclaimed Islamic Scholar Moulana Ali Miya (r.a).
Each year, we have the honor of hosting distinguished personalities from across India, including Moulana Yusuf Islahi, Moulana Sana ullah Madani, Janab Kamal Faruqi, Moulana Aejaz Aslam, and Moulana Nazar ul Hafeez. Various delegations also visit the Society to learn about our model for establishing Interest Free Societies in their regions. Recent visits from groups in Kerala, Hassan, Udupi, Kumta, Koppal, Manavi, Shimoga, Sirsi, Gangolli, and others have led them to initiate their own Interest Free Society. Several benevolent individuals from Murdeshwar have also established their Interest Free Society after discussions with our management.
Public health is a broad area within social work, and the Society has ventured into this field by acquiring a hospital. We hope this will reduce the necessity for residents to travel to Mangalore for minor health issues.
We humbly urge the community to contribute and cooperate in various ways to foster the progress and development of all sectors within the Society. May Allah reward you abundantly in this world and the hereafter. Aameen.
